The history of Kalvarija dramatics will be narrated in the book Published: 2010.07.08

Little by little the idea, which has been matured for a long time and has now found its sponsors during these hard times, is making its way into the light - thanks to Kalvarija amateur dramatics "Titnagas" the long anticipated book "The Theatre of Kalvarija Region in the Century‘s Perspective" will be published.

Director of Kalvarija Municipality Cultural Centre Laima Kupstienė says that the idea of publishing a book revealing Kalvarija amateurs‘ theatrical traditions has been maturing for a long time, however finally it formed itself only a couple of years ago, when the decision was made on the occasion of the millennium of the mention of Lithuania‘s name, to also honour local activities that has been existing over one hundred years, that is, theatrical activities of Kalvarija amateur artists.

Nevertheless, on the eve of the commemoration of the honourable state‘s name, the hard times that had touched the country adjusted plans and slowed by then generous sponsors of the book. Although for the publishing of the book the funding of Sūduva Region Development Programme and Kalvarija Municipality Cultural Centre was allocated, the funds were not sufficient and the book remained unpublished.

This year, having invited the permanent sponsors of Kalvarija region cultural events the company Saerimner, individual, benevolent businessmen and even theatre artists themselves to the united forces of sponsors, the publishing matters of the book has moved from the dead-point. According to L. Kupstienė, in Kalvarija district, few significant publications are published, therefore the book "The Theatre of Kalvarija Region in the Century‘s Perspective" is especially anticipated by all countrymen who are interested in theatrical activities and the publishers of the book simply have no right to disappoint them. According to the Director of Kalvarija Municipality Cultural Centre, it is a pity that Kalvarija Municipality that has such a strong theatre cannot afford to support it financially and there is a necessity to ask for support from the side.

L. Kupstienė is happy that the support of the company "Saerimner" that permanently patronizes cultural initiatives allows successfully creating new and cherishing long-lived cultural traditions of the region.
