our process

/22
Grain delivery

Feed components are delivered by trucks to the farm every day, which are further used to produce feed in the local mill. In order to purchase feed, Idavang works with the grain suppliers. We prefer local suppliers to support local businesses.

2
/22
Grain unloading

Delivered grain is unloaded on elevators. Feed supplements, for example, vitamin and mineral complexes or milk powder are delivered in bags. They are further stored in a special storage area.

3
/22
Grain silos

Grain is kept in silos. Depending on the farm, they can store up to several thousand tons of grain.

4
/22
Mill

Idavang ensures balanced animal diet by providing animals with the best quality feed, prepared from wheat, barley and soya. All feed recipes are supervised by experienced animal nutrition from Denmark. In order to ensure quality, we mix them from different components in the farm mill.

5
/22
Feed preparation

An automated computerized feeding system provides the possibility to automatically prepare different feeds for animals of different age. An automated system also adjusts and supervises feeding activity.

6
/22
Automated feeding & watering lines

Feed and water is provided to swine by special lines, which make sure that animals always have water of proper quality and get the necessary amount of quality feed on time.

7
/22
Ventilation system

A regularly maintained ventilation system is installed on the entire farm, which ensures the transfer of fresh air into the premises and which can be adjusted according to air temperature.

8
/22
Disease prevention

In order to prevent pathogens from getting into the farm and to protect swine against diseases, all employees of the farm and guests have to follow the rules of entering the farm: they cannot visit any other swine farms or be in the presence of wild boars and pigs 48 hours before entering the farm.

9
/22
Changing rooms and showers

Before entering or leaving the farm premises farm staff and guests have to take a shower, put on work clothes and leave all personal belongings in administration premises. Additional protection is provided by disinfection foot mats that are used going in and out of the shower rooms. Showering reduces the probability of transmitting bacteria and viruses to minimum.

10
/22
Passageway

The passageway that joins administration and farm premises is a preventive means to protect animals against infections. Employees shower and change their clothes in administration premises and only then can enter to the farm through the passageway, thus avoiding contact with environment.

11
/22
Insemination division

Quality is our main priority, therefore, we have chosen to keep pigs of the best genetics available, which show excellent genetic qualities and health. Gilts and sows are inseminated in our farms.

12
/22
Boars

The boars of the herd are sperm donors. Sperm of one boar is taken no more than once a week. The boars of the herd are also bred in the farm.

13
/22
Laboratory

Sperm for the insemination of gilts sows is prepared in the laboratory. On this farm, sperm is prepared following biosafety requirements.

14
/22
Sows

Four weeks after the insemination gilts and sows are grouped according to their weight and taken to group keeping stalls, where they spend 11 weeks.

15
/22
Farrow division

The whole farrow process is monitored with a special control scheme and is under constant supervision. Piglets are grouped after their birth. During the first two days after their birth, piglets are taken to special premises with room temperature of 33 degrees 5 times a day for 15-20 minutes. The piglets spend more than a month with their mother and reach the weight of 7 kg.

16
/22
Division of weaned piglets

The piglets of 7 kg are transferred to the division of weaned piglets. Their number and weight is registered. In this section their health is checked at least once per day. The room temperature is gradually decreasing from  30 degrees to 20. Here the piglets stay around 2 months, until they reach 30 kg weight.

17
/22
Fattening pigs

The fattening pigs are always kept in a proper room temperature and lighting. The high hygiene and sanitary standards are maintained in the farm, and institutions in charge of animal welfare regularly inspect animal welfare conditions. The piglets of 30 kg achieve a weight of 105 kg in about 3 months in this division.

18
/22
Pig loading and exportation

The pigs are seperated and marked in to two categories: from 98 to 102 kg and 103 kg and more. An average selling weight is 105 kg, which is reached in around 6 months. To avoid the contact between inside of the farm and outside, we use ramps of three separate parts to load the pigs on trucks.

19
/22
Biogas

The bigest part of the manure is proccesed and odours neutralized in the biogas power plants.

20
/22
Fractioning

Most of our farms are equipped with a modern manure fractioning facility, which mechanically separates the solid manure, which is further kept in a hangar, from the slurry, which is delivered to lagoons by underground tracks. All manure is used as fertilizer. There is a possibility to use solid manure for solid fuel or biogas production.

21
/22
Covered lagoons

The slurry is stored in the lagoons, accordancing the EU requirements. They prevent the environment and ground waters from the slurry and smells and reduce the emission of ammonia into the environment by 90 percent. The slurry is carried and sprayed in the fields by “Pioneer” combines which insert slurry into the soil with high precision.

22
/22
Boiler room

Most of our farms get the heating from the boiler room that uses straw; this technology is one of the most environmentally friendly. The straw for the boiler room is collected from local farmers; ashes that form during the process are mixed with manure to be used as valuable fertilizer.
